According to football analyst saying that Lamptey has been identified as the prime option to bolster the position, but he is unlikely to come on the cheap for United.

United value him in the region of £30m, but Brighton are likely to hold out for at least £40m to sanction his sale to them

Based on performance showing that Lamptey has built his reputation since his move from Chelsea two years ago to Brighton.

Report also shows that Arsenal were heavily linked with his services earlier last year, but cooled their pursuit following his hamstring injury.

They ended up signing Takehiro Tomiyasu, who has been an immense hit, but still have Lamptey on their radar for now.

Their focus is currently on a midfielder and striker. United appear favourites to sign the 21-year-old this month.

The arrival of Lamptey could trigger the departure of Diogo Dalot, who has been linked with a return to AC Milan where they feel his heart belong.
