The Role

At Alto Pharmacy, our Data Engineering team is pivotal in transforming the pharmacy industry. We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer who will play a key role in designing and building scalable data pipelines, managing ETL processes, and overseeing data visualization and metadata platforms such as Fivetran, Snowflake, DBT, Looker, and DataHub. Additionally, you will be involved in data transformations using Apache Spark and managing our machine learning platform, Kubeflow, to optimize pharmacy operations.

You will also handle AWS components to support our data platforms running in AWS EKS clusters, with Terraform managing IAM, S3, SNS, SQS, and other essential services. Data integrations across healthcare networks, drug manufacturers, and various partnerships will also be part of your responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

Data Pipeline Development: Design, develop, and maintain robust data pipelines to manage large volumes of data. Ensure data quality, integrity, and security throughout the data lifecycle. Implement ETL/ELT processes using Apache Spark and DBT.
Data Infrastructure and Management: Manage and optimize data storage solutions, including data warehouses and databases. Implement and uphold data governance practices. Support and enhance data processing platforms in AWS EKS. Ensure compliance with data privacy regulations (e.g., HIPAA).
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with software engineers, product managers, and business analysts to understand data needs and deliver effective solutions. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and data scientists. Communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Continuous Improvement: Stay current with advancements in data engineering and machine learning. Experiment with new tools and technologies to improve data infrastructure and ML capabilities. Contribute to best practices and standards in data engineering and machine learning.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related field.
7+ years of experience in data engineering.
Strong technical skills in Python, SQL, and data modeling.
Experience with data processing frameworks like Apache Spark or Hadoop.
Familiarity with data warehouses, ETL/ELT tools, and cloud services.
Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Strong sense of ownership and ability to work independently in a startup environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in the healthcare or pharmaceutical industry.
Knowledge of healthcare data standards and privacy regulations (e.g., HIPAA).
Familiarity with defining and implementing security and data access policies.
Experience with big data technologies and distributed computing.
Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
Experience with cloud development and deployment (AWS, GCP, Azure).
Proven track record in improving data governance, accuracy, and latency.

Salary and Benefits

Salary Range: $146,000 – $183,000
Commission Eligible: No
Equity Eligible: Yes
Travel: Required up to 15% of the time for engineering on/off-site tasks.
Location Requirement: Must reside in the following states: CA, CT, CO, FL, NV, IL, NY, KS, TX, MD, WA, MO, NJ, NC, OR, PA, SC, TN, WI.
