Report from former Bacelona and Cameroonian legend Samuel Eto’o who refused to be drawn on whether Xavi Hernandez is ready to coach FC Barcelona.
It was noted that the coaching job became vacant after the Spanish football powerhouse fired Dutch tactician Ronald Koeman last week following Barca’s shock defeat to Rayo Vallecano.
Based on hisory showing that Xavi who played for Barcelona alongside Eto’o between 2004 and 2009, has been strongly linked with Barca with the team having struggled this season.
And it was also noted that the retired central midfielder is currently in charge of Qatari giants Al Sadd where he has won five trophies since he took charge in 2019.
Quoting the Cameroon saying “Xavi is my brother, and he is a great coach,” Eto’o as he told sport reporters.
He continued “The other day I saw him enjoy a lot after winning the Emir Cup [with Al Sadd]. He is great.”
Barcelona are currently are under the guidance of interim coach Sergi Barjuan, who is a former Barca left-back, as the club continues to search for a permanent manager.
History have it that Eto’o scored 130 goals in five seasons for Barcelona and also became the record holder for the most appearances by an African player in La Liga.
Winning La Liga three times, the retired striker was a key member of the Barcelona attack, alongside Ronaldinho, that won the 2006 UEFA Champions League final.
