Job Description:
Job Summary: We’re hiring a Principal Backend Java Engineer with a strong background in large scale distributed systems. You’ll work on one of the largest distributed storage systems in the world, running on thousands of machines and handling petabytes of data. You’ll be developing infrastructure and solving many technical challenges in the areas of distributed computing frameworks, data structures and algorithms. This team develops and maintains high-performing systems that power mail for its 200 million plus active users. We develop technology that changes the internet while handling billions of inbound connections per day to manage trillions of messages requiring petabytes of efficient storage.
You will be designing and implementing the next generation email services. We are embarking on a transition from data centers to Public cloud infrastructure. Work on a complete Java stack that serves hundreds of billions of transactions daily. Develop and maintain REST web-services that power our clients, Mail protocol services, Delivery, Caching and data processing services.

Key Responsibilities
Develop scalable and innovative robust Java code for information retrieval, processing, and ranking at massive scale.
Build, enhance, optimize, and deploy tools, workflows, systems to process textual data for extraction of relevant information
Improve information extraction using machine learning and natural language processing techniques
Collaborate with team members and stakeholders, ensuring clear understanding of technical requirements and project goals.
Write detailed design documents, develop comprehensive automated tests, and coordinate automated deployments
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field of study with 15+ years of relevant industry experience / Master’s degree in Computer Science with 10+ years of relevant industry experience
In-depth knowledge of algorithms, data structures, and systems
Familiarity with data mining, text processing and classification algorithms.
Experience in algorithm design and machine learning
Several years of experience developing enterprise applications in core Java
Experience in building distributed, low-cost, internet-scale streaming systems in Java, ideally on Linux
E2E software development lifecycle experience, including building and maintaining production grade software
Excellent communication, interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills
Worked effectively in a remote setting, maintaining strong written and verbal communication skills.
Hands-on experience in Google Cloud Platform
5+ years of experience in customer-facing software/technology or consulting
Understanding of statistical methods and exploratory data analysis
Hands-on experience with Apache Hadoop
Prefer – Google Associate Cloud Engineer Certification or other Google Cloud Professional level certification.

The anticipated starting pay range for Colorado is: $180,300 – $264,440.
The anticipated starting pay range for the states of Hawaii and New York (not including NYC) is: $191,900 – $281,490.
The anticipated starting pay range for California, New York City and Washington is: $210,000 – $308,000.
Unless already included in the posted pay range and based on eligibility, the role may include variable compensation in the form of bonus, commissions, or other discretionary payments. These discretionary payments are based on company and/or individual performance and may change at any time. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, licenses and certifications, and specific work location.
