Database Administrator I - United States - RemoteWe are seeking a skilled Database Administrator to ensure the smooth operation, security, and optimization of our organizational database systems. This role will primarily focus on Microsoft SQL Server, but you’ll also have the chance to leverage your expertise with MySQL, Oracle, and PostgreSQL. You’ll collaborate with development and IT teams to design, implement, and maintain efficient database structures, contributing to our technology initiatives’ success.

Key Responsibilities:

Client Collaboration: Work with HBS Sales Solutions Consultants to identify and expand opportunities within client environments. Meet with customers to understand their business processes and provide guidance on enhancing their data strategy.
Database Design & Maintenance: Design, implement, and maintain database systems, primarily using Microsoft SQL Server, while also supporting MySQL, Oracle, and PostgreSQL as needed.
Performance Optimization: Monitor and optimize database performance, troubleshoot and resolve issues, and implement security protocols to protect sensitive data.
Backup & Recovery: Develop and execute backup and recovery strategies, perform regular backups, and test recovery procedures.
Security & Compliance: Implement and enforce database security protocols and ensure compliance with industry regulations and best practices.
Collaboration & Support: Work with development teams to design efficient database structures, optimize SQL queries, and provide support for various database systems.
Documentation & Reporting: Maintain comprehensive documentation for database configurations, processes, and procedures. Generate and analyze regular performance reports and keep documentation updated with changes.

Essential Functions:

Independent & Team Work: Ability to work independently or as part of a team on project-based solutions. Mentor other engineers in developing scalable, secure, high-performance BI and Data solutions.
Client Solutions: Estimate development efforts, provide consulting services, and contribute to the growth of data services and delivery options for HBS clients.
Hours Requirement: Achieve a minimum of 1,298 billable hours per fiscal year, adjusted based on start date, with a balance of professional development and on-the-job training.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
Experience: Proven expertise in designing, implementing, and maintaining Microsoft SQL Server databases, with strong understanding of database architecture, normalization, and performance tuning.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in query optimization, index tuning, database security best practices, backup and recovery strategies, and scripting (e.g., T-SQL, PowerShell).
Documentation & Communication: Strong skills in creating and maintaining documentation, with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to cross-functional teams.
Flexibility: Willingness to learn and apply skills to other database platforms, including MySQL, Oracle, and PostgreSQL.

Preferred Experience:

Industry Experience: 1+ years managing SQL Server databases, experience in Professional Services or client-facing roles, and familiarity with multiple industries (e.g., Education, Healthcare, Retail, Manufacturing).
Additional Platforms: Experience with AWS, Azure SQL Database, Amazon RDS, and other cloud-based database services.
Replication & Warehousing: Knowledge of database replication models, data warehousing concepts, and ETL processes.
High Availability & Disaster Recovery: Experience with high availability solutions (e.g., clustering, mirroring, AlwaysOn) and disaster recovery strategies.
