Moving to Everton in 2019, Alex Iwobi believes the transfer was 'nudged' by then-club ArsenalIn an interview with The Beautiful Game podcast, Alex Iwobi, a former Arsenal winger, shared his belief that his former club may have played a role in his decision to leave and sign for Everton in 2019 for a reported fee of up to £34 million.

Despite joining Arsenal’s youth academy in 2004 and breaking into the first team in 2015, Iwobi opted for a new challenge at Everton.

He recalled how Arsenal had signed Nicolas Pepe, a new winger, who was expected to play in his position.

Arsenal then informed him that they had received a high bid for him and that they were not likely to get such an amount from any other source.

Iwobi admitted that it felt like a nudge from Arsenal, leaving him with a decision to make.

Pepe’s arrival at Arsenal was announced on August 1, 2019, and he was the club’s record signing, having been purchased for £72 million.

Despite early promise, Pepe struggled to live up to expectations and was sent on loan to Nice at the start of the 2022/23 season. Meanwhile, Iwobi found his footing at Everton, becoming a pivotal player in their bid to avoid relegation this season.
