According to reports, Harry Kane may be inclined to extend his stay at Tottenham Hotspur if Mauricio Pochettino returns for a second stint as manager. As things stand, Kane’s contract is set to expire at the end of the upcoming season, and negotiations for a new deal have been slow.
Spurs chairman Daniel Levy declined a nine-figure offer for Kane from Manchester City in 2021, but he may now risk losing the team’s top scorer for free in 2024. Manchester United and Bayern Munich are reportedly interested in signing the England captain, who is said to be seeking more chances to win trophies.
Despite Tottenham’s desire to keep Kane, they are prepared to ward off potential suitors during the next transfer window and continue negotiations into the final months of his current deal if necessary. However, if Pochettino takes over from Antonio Conte, who has been rumored to be on the verge of leaving, Kane would be more likely to stay.
Kane had a successful period under Pochettino between 2014 and 2019, and the two men have a positive relationship. Kane is Tottenham’s top scorer of all time, with 271 goals and 63 assists from 425 matches in all competitions. During the 2022-23 season, he has contributed 23 goals and four assists in 39 appearances, putting him second in the Premier League’s Golden Boot standings.
If Conte is sacked, Ryan Mason will be in charge of Tottenham on an interim basis until the end of the season. The club is reportedly considering several high-profile candidates to take over, including Pochettino, Julian Nagelsmann, and Luis Enrique.
